The Brazilian women's national soccer team will begin their work for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games on home soil. Brazil will host the Uber International Women's Team Tournament. The event will take place between August 29 and September 1 at the Pacaembu stadium in São Paulo, bringing together the national teams of Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica and Argentina.
All the matches will take place in a double round and the champion will be decided on the 1st. The tournament is the first held by the Brazilian national team since the end of the World Cup. The event marks the start of Brazil's preparations for the Tokyo Olympics, which take place in 2020.
Broadcast by Sportv, the Uber International Women's Team Tournament kicks off at 7pm on Thursday, August 29, with the match between Costa Rica and Chile. Then, at 9pm, Brazil will play Argentina. As a sponsor, Uber will have its brand displayed in the playing arena, as well as carrying out different actions with the public who will be going to the Pacaembu stadium to watch the games.
The teams meet again on Sunday, the 1st, with the third-place play-off between the losers of the first round, starting at 10:30. The champion will be decided from 1pm.
Tickets for each of the match days are now available to buy at https://www.tstickets.com.br/torneio-uber-futebol-feminino. They start at R$ 20 (Grandstand) and R$ 24 (Numbered), with a 50% half-price discount. When buying online, a 10% convenience fee will be added. The Pacaembu box office will be open for physical sales, if necessary, during the week of the tournament.
"The tournament is a way of promoting sport and physical activity in the city of São Paulo. The fans' identification with the Brazilian women's team was clear at the last World Cup. We hope to see the Pacaembu packed to cheer on the team," says Milton Mattani, president of the International Federation of Football 7 Society (Fifos), organizer of the tournament.
"We have always believed in equal opportunities, that women can be anything they want to be, and we want this vision to go beyond our platform. At Uber, we understand that women's soccer is a representation of women's challenge in society," says Claudia Woods, general director of Uber in Brazil. "We need to give value and visibility to all the women who have empowered themselves, sought independence and had the courage to achieve their dreams, inside and outside soccer."
The Uber International Women's Team tournament is made possible by the Sports Incentive Law and the Ministry of Citizenship's Special Secretariat for Sport Program and is sponsored by Uber, Sabesp, Sicredi, Maratá, Kalunga, Atacadão, Wickbold, Fini, Besni and Colgate. It is organized by the International Federation of Football 7 Society.
Uber's sponsorship is another step in the #AcreditaNelas movement, launched by Uber in June, when the company raised a banner at the Santos-Corinthians clash in the Serie A Men's Brazilian Championship, drawing attention to the lack of visibility and support for the women's game. The flag with the words "Unfortunately, this flag will be seen more than women's soccer" was raised by Santos fans. In addition, Uber started sponsoring the women's teams of Grêmio and Internacional and announced a partnership with the Brazilian Women's Football Championship.
